Child Welfare Centre (Barnavårdcentral)

Having a child represents a major change in life. At the child welfare centre, we monitor your child’s development and provide you with advice and support in your role as parents. You can ask us about most things, whether it is about your child’s health or how to deal with the various day-to-day problems that could arise.

At the child welfare centre, you can undergo:

  • Health examinations (physical, mental and social development)

and receive

  • Vaccinations
  • Advice on breastfeeding
  • Dietary advice
  • Advice about sleep
  • Support in your role as a parent

After the birth of your child, you should contact the child welfare centre to arrange a visit. The child welfare centre offers a home visit to all new parents.

All visits to a child welfare centre are free of charge. The child welfare centre is part of the health centre and your child will be registered there. If your child is ill or injured, the first thing you should do is contact the health centre.

Would you like to meet other new parents in order to get to know each other and share your experiences? If so, you are welcome to join one of our parent groups.

The child welfare centre has nurses and doctors with specialist knowledge of children’s health and development.
